How I Work

The Process

I require a photo of your animal for pet portraits. A high-quality photo is the most ideal, but I have worked with low-resolution and blurry photos. I need to work from a digital photo, not a printed copy. I cannot work from any old photo, the animal needs to be clear and the colors readable. The very best photos to give me are photos of your pet outside in daylight. Preferably taken with a camera, but newer cellphones are usually good too. Once I approve of a photo, I will sketch it and begin painting/drawing. Work in progress photos can be requested at any time.

Please contact me for any questions regarding deadlines and time estimations. I can’t give a good completion time until I know the extent of what I am drawing. If you need something done in time for a holiday, it’s best to commission me way in advance as it can take several weeks to complete something complex with my schedule.

I usually do not start drawing until I receive full payment. If a refund is requested after I start, the refund amount depends on how much work has been completed and how much material has been used. Once the work is completed, it can be mailed, or picked up if local. For digital artwork commissions, I give a high quality print of the artwork. I scan my completed traditional artwork for my recorded examples and have the image file should anything happen to the original. The full-size digital file or scan will be emailed so the client may have my drawing on their phone or computer as well as the physical copy.
